Today marks a milestone in the history of Ramey Kemp Associates – 30 years!
Ramey Kemp started as a sole proprietor of the firm, working out of his basement with his cat, Bonnie. Three years later, he would hire our current CEO, Monty Irvin, PE, and open RKA’s first office in Raleigh, NC. Over the next two-and-a-half decades, Ramey & Monty’s vision drove the expansion of the company to 80 employees across six offices in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
As RKA’s founder, Ramey was a consummate entrepreneur. He believed in the importance of providing wealth for his employees – and generations of future employees to come. Early employees were invited to join real estate partnerships that would own all of RKA’s properties. By 2004, all employees also became employee-owners in the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). Over time, the ESOP value has grown with RKA’s success, in large part due to a company-wide commitment to service quality.
Through and through, RKA has focused on transportation consulting services and embodied four core values: being brave, respectful, trustworthy, and helpful. RKA has evolved over its 30 years to continue to be innovative, cost effective, and quality assured. Most importantly, RKA has worked with clients to make transportation accessible and safe, never losing sight of the communities it supports.
