On Saturday, March 19th, the North Carolina Society of Engineers bestowed the honor of 2022 “Outstanding Engineer of the Year” to Ramey Kemp Associates’ Founder, Ramey Kemp, Jr., PE, PTOE.
Mr. Kemp is a High Point native and natural-born entrepreneur who mowed lawns and delivered newspapers in his youth. Growing up in Mocksville, he discovered his talent for mathematics and pursued his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Civil Engineering at North Carolina State University. Later, he would also earn an MBA from the University of Houston.
Mr. Kemp dove into transportation engineering at a time when North Carolina’s interstate highway system was being designed and built. He worked for the NCDOT and other private firms before branching out on his own and founding Ramey Kemp & Associates in 1992. He focused his career on roadway design and traffic engineering, overseeing projects in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Michigan. Throughout his career, Mr. Kemp actively participated as a member of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), the Association of State Highway Engineers (ASHE), the Professional Engineers of North Carolina (PENC), the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), and the Urban Land Institute (ULI).
The North Carolina Society of Engineers (NCSE) was founded in 1918 to promote the social, economic, and technical interests of the engineering profession. It fosters better standards of ethics and knowledge dissemination in order to protect the public from incompetence in all lines of engineering work.
