Let’s talk

    Project Overview

RKA developed the traffic forecast and capacity analysis for the proposed freeway conversion of approximately 6.5 miles of US 70 in Johnston and Wayne Counties, North Carolina for the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). This project is part of a series that will ultimately create a new 137-mile Interstate corridor, I-42, from just south of Raleigh to the Port of Morehead City that will better accommodate freight transport, improve coastal evacuations, and connect two military installations to the Interstate system. This project included removal of direct access, constructing interchanges, and grade separating roadways that currently intersect US 70. The study area consisted of 21 intersections and included access to a parallel route through the Town of Princeton. The project resulted in three new interchanges along the study corridor, the addition of service roads to accommodate the change in access as well as roadway extensions to provide alternative direct access to Princeton.
