RKA is providing traffic forecasting, planning and design services for proposed improvements to a 4.4-mile section of NC 5 in Aberdeen and Pinehurst, NC. The proposed project involves upgrading existing NC 5 from US 1-15-501/NC 211 in Aberdeen to Trotter Drive/Blake Boulevard in Pinehurst to a four-lane divided facility for a majority of the project before transitioning to a three-lane facility near Linden Road tying into the existing three-lanes near Trotter Drive. RKA is performing traffic forecasting for turn-lane recommendations and traffic signal design. NC 5 runs parallel to the Aberdeen Carolina & Western Railway (AC&W) so we are coordinating with the railroad to minimize impacts to the rail and to upgrade several at-grade crossing.
Services provided by RKA and our subconsultants include the preparation of an environmental documentation, public involvement, traffic noise analysis, air quality analysis, roadway design, hydraulic design, erosion control, traffic management plans, pavement marking and signing plans, signal design, railroad coordination, geotechnical investigation / pavement design, and utility coordination.
